The main meeting of Street Vendors was held in Bandarawela
The National Hawker Federation (NHF) India, President, @Shri Mir Inayath Ali Baqri, General Secretary and Founder, Shri Saktiman Ghosh & All India Women Hawker Federation’s General Secretary Ms. Anita Das visited Sri Lanka from 6th to 14th February 2023 to strengthen the network among the informal street vendors’ associations and their networks with technical support, advisory services, training and linkage building with the invitation of FIAN Sri Lanka for the current project they are implementing for Street Vendors in Karaveddi, Hikkaduwa, Panadura and Bandarawela MC and LA areas.
After several field visits and meetings, the national event took place in Bandarawela municipal hall on 12th February 2023 with the participation of the Municipal Commissioner Mr. T. Gajendrakumar, FIAN Sri Lanka board members, staff and consultants, Cooperate Department and partner organization representatives, all 4 Street Vendor Association members totaling around 125 with the women representation around 23%. Also they engaged with a knowledge sharing session.
Furthermore #fiansrilanka executive director, Mr. Thilak Kariyawasam was appointed by National Hawker Federation (India) as their international representative for Sri Lanka. Finally, Indian representatives agreed to give their continuous support to further strengthen the street vendors in Sri Lanka.
