War Widows Case Work North in Sri Lanka

The prolonged ethnic conflict which spanned over more than three decades in Sri Lanka brought many socio-economic problems, one of which is the crisis of the war widows which is significant. Women were severely affected and victimized by the armed conflict especially in the Northern and Eastern provinces. According to reports released by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office on Human Rights and Democracy in May 2012, there were up to 900,000 Tamil war widows in the North and East of the country. There are 24,800 war widows in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka and among them 16,000 war widows live in
the Batticaloa District (Amarasinghe, 2017).
